Prague Wellness Facilities and Centres

If you are coming to Prague then be prepared to do a lot of walking in all weathers. But it doesn’t all have to be a hard slog as you navigate all the attractions etc. Why not work a bit or pleasure and relaxation into your break for less than you might think. Very often these Prague wellness treatments have to be arranged in advance but some offer a walk-in service for a quick massage etc. So here’s a selection of places offering various things like different types of massages, body treatments, facials and sauna/steam rooms to help you to relax after a hard day in the city. Descriptions are below.

ECSOTICA LUXURY SPA

The luxury Spa of the Alchymist hotel in Mala Strana battles with the Mandarin for the honour of having the best Prague wellness facilities in the city. It’s much smaller than the Mandarin but if you prefer a snug design and treatment rooms with a bit more personality then this is the place. Not an extensive list of massages but it’s a select choice. A standard Swedish massage, Balinese massage (long thumb strokes), Hawaiian (elbows and kneading) and the signature Alchymist massage which is a mix of all three. They also do a basic 30 minute back massage, a 30 minute foot massage and the 60 minute “DUO” which has two people working on you at the same time.

Ecsotica takes the Prague wellness and treatment experience a step further by providing a choice like full body scrub, body wraps, bathing, an array of facials and skin hydration treatments. As a luxury hotel it also offers a Spa package of luxury accommodation plus a collection of massages and treatments.

MANDARIN ORIENTAL LUXURY SPA

The Mandarin Oriental hotel in Prague was built in a converted monastery so it has a lot of space. This is shown in the converted chapel spa area where they not only have enough space for regular modern treatment rooms but also three private suites which are top-of-the-range and offer things like twin beds for couples and a private “Vitality pool” (only in the Vltava suite). Not the cheapest Prague wellness with the Oriental Harmony (4 hands) coming in at more than 8000CZK for 120 minutes and regular 90 minute massages at 3700CZK but it offers a wonderfully relaxing environment, from the lobby via the tea room where you wait for your treatment. And then there’s the treatment or massage itself to look forward to with whatever treatment that you have reserved or what they call “Ritual” which is basically 120 minutes set aside which starts with an assessment of your own physical/mental condition and goes on with a recommended treatment to help you. It’s an award winning Prague wellness and spa and certainly somewhere that you reserve as part of your holiday rather than a walk-in service. They publish full details in a pdf file downloadable from their website.

SABAI

The original Prague wellness specialists in Thai massage in two properly equipped central locations in Na Prikope. Slovansky Dum is the main location offering an extensive array of massages in Thai and Indian styles with a choice of oils and aromas to suit your mood. Some of it is relaxing, other parts concentrate on the repair of sports injuries and combating body stress caused by poor seating posture etc. The treatments are whole body and partial-body including hand and foot reflexology and most of them are in the 30-60 minute range however it can go up to 2 hours if you can take that amount of relaxation. My own personal favourite is the Slovansky Dum: The whole-body massage for two, Vitality (coconut oil) and Morning Glory (Thai body/head).

The other Sabai Prague wellness location is 100 metres up the road towards Wenceslas Square in the Cerna Ruze centre. It does not have the space or range of Prague spa treatments as Slovansky Dum but it does have a fair selection of foot, head and back massages between 30 and 90 minutes and you’ll find the prices are about 30% less than the comparable treatment at the Slovansky Dum.

MYSTIC TEMPLE

Mystic Temple is centrally located about 5 minutes walk from Wenceslas Square. For Prague wellness they do a wide selection of massages which breaks down more or less into four sections the body bending Thai, Indian Style Ayurvedic, Swedish/Sports, Shihatsu and stones but it’s especially recommended for the Ayurvedic. Some crazy names to work through to see what they actually are going to you. My recommended massages here are: in the Thai section “Dark Side of the Moon” (60 minute Back massage), and from the Ayurvedic section the “Kati Abyango” (30 minute back massage) and the “Shirodhara” (60 minute head/neck/shoulders) which is also called the third eye massage (ooooh!).
