A FREE Prague walking tour
Actually its THREE free walking tours.

No kidding, you found it. Something for nothing, free. How many ways can you say it. This was what the Internet was supposed to be like wasn't it?
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FREE VERSION IS DOWNLOADABLE BELOW BUT THE ACTUAL BOOK THAT YOU BUY IS IN PRINTED A6 FORMAT.
These 15 walking tours written and published by me in colour A6 pocket size paper format will simply guide you around the streets in a structured way so that you won't be walking on the same piece of road twice. You'll see ALL of the major attractions and about 90% of the less well known places. Keep the book in your pocket or bag and when you feel like exploring an area just choose a tour from one of the popular start points including the Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square, Republic Square, Mala Strana or the Prague Castle. Or you can follow the tours from the start as each can be walked consecutively and you can go back to your favourite points very easily. I started walking around Prague in 1996. I know every street in the centre and I've walked every street in the centre. I've been a tourist and now I live here as a resident.

Well you're right, there are many "free walking tours" about Prague. Most seem to be offered by people whose only Prague experience is reading about the city. Some are ok in content but, drown you in history or are extremely difficult to follow as you walk the streets. Others are easy to follow because they stay on a main route and you don't get to see the side streets etc. With my book you'll imagine yourself walking along the streets and looking at the attractions even before you get here.

Why is this better than the tour guide companies?
Not better than, consider this as a different format or an alternative for people who want to experience Prague but not the crowds of people, loudspeakers, coloured umbrellas and spending most of your time looking at the tour guide instead of the city. You may even get a real guide off-season but at peak times you'll almost certainly get a student on a working holiday. The aim here is to get you looking at the city at your own pace.

Is this a guide book?
Much of the information normally found interesting by the first time visitor is in the book along with unusual facts and humourous content that is interwoven into the walks. It is primarily a walking tour book but by definition I will be showing you around the city so that's why I call it a mini-guide. It is not a guide book that points out hotels/restaurants/bars/clubs etc. By bringing a good guidebook with you and combining it with my walking tours you'll get the best of both worlds i.e. off the beaten path tours with detailed attraction information.

How long are the walks?
I don't put any fixed time on the walks as this will largely depend on where you want to stop and for how long. As a general rule most of the routes can be walked between 60 and 90 minutes at a medium pace without stopping at attractions etc. As for difficulty, the majority of the walks are on flat ground with the only inclines being as you go from Mala Strana up to the castle.

Can I buy the book in Prague?
You can buy the book at the Big Ben Bookshop at Mala Stupartska 5. To get to it from the Old Town Square, next to the Tyn Church is a passageway (between the church and the Stone House) at the end is a courtyard called Tynsky Dvur. Go into the courtyard and as you exit the courtyard at the far end turn left into Mala Stupartska. Big Ben is three doors down on the left. As you go into the shop my book is on the right top shelf with the city guides. Alternatively just ask whoever is working that day (hopefully they will know where it is). Big Ben's webpage is www.bigbenbookshop.com and their phone number is 224 826 565. The price is 295Kc (approx 12 Euros) so even allowing for the bookshops margin you will still be saving the postage cost by buying in Prague.

Where's the free stuff?
The actual Prague walking tours book is printed in colour A6 format (pocket size), plastic covered and ring-bound. It contains all 15 tours, translations, Czech menu guide and a quiz. But if you don't want to buy it I'm still happy to help you enjoy the city. The free document consists of the introduction, the first three walking tours and the quiz. Not included in the free version are the other 12 walking tours, the translations and the menu guide. This can be printed as A4 size but I recommend to choose to print two pages per sheet. Alternatively anybody with a smartphone/PDA can just read it from there so long as you have PDF reading software. Just click on the icon and save it to your own computer.

And finally,
My website still gives you the choice. The Tours page has a section for walking tours and you can find links to walking tour companies and read what they are offering. Then see what they are offering for free and what will be the experience of your tour guide. Also pay close attention to the allotted time for the tour i.e. your 300Kc (12 Euros) may only get you a 45 minute tour in places.

You'll need Adobe Acrobat software to open it. Unless your pc is from the stone age then it should already be installed but, you may never have used it. This software is commonly bundled with other software programs because it is used for the supporting manuals for the product. If you have a stone age pc then the software is freely available at Adobe.com.
Click on the icon below and if the Adobe software is installed on your pc, you'll be offered a choice of opening the document or saving it. I suggest that you just save it onto your own pc. If the document does not open then either you do not have Adobe Acrobat on your pc or it does not recognise the .pdf extension. In this case do the following:
1) open the control Panel of your pc (START --> Control Panel)
2) click on "Folder Options" folder.
3) click on the "file types" tab.
4) scroll down the list of file types until you find "PDF" then click on it to highlight the line.
5) in the lower part of the box it should say "Opens with Acrobat Reader". If it does not say Acrobat Reader then click on the "change" button and select whatever "Acrobat Reader" software is on your pc from the list. If Acrobat Reader is not in the list then it's not on your pc.
That's it. Thanks for your time. The link to the free Prague walking tours is below. Enjoy exploring the City of Prague.
