Zizkov Accommodation

Zizkov is generally accepted as the cheaper end of the market although it has excellent transport links into central areas and it is close to the exclusive Vinohrady area. Accommodation is mostly in the 3 star and hostel range as seen below.

I don't recommend the area if you are driving here and have to park outside on the street. I recommend some hotels that have garage options so expect to pay around 15 Euros extra per night for that. Two roads have the bulk of the choice, Seifertova is the main road with the tramline and Borivojova is two streets over in the direction of Vinohrady (much quieter). Consider buying a travel pass if you are staying in the area.

4*. Amedia Hotel Theatrino. Formerly Arcohotel Teatrino, is located on the junction of Borivojova and Seifertova. Nearest tram stop is 100 metres. Refurbished hotel turned into a 4 star but, more accessible for people prepared to use trams and it's 4 stops to the centre. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their group homepage is at www.amediahotels.com.

4*. Hotel Carlton. Located in Taboritska. 50 rooms which are more spacious than average. Quiet street. It's a 5 minute walk to get to the nearest tram stop in Seifertova. Makes the 4 star class but, only just. Part of the H&H mini-group. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelcarlton.cz.

3*. Hotel City Crown. This is a "family run" option. The road looks a bit shabby but, the hotel is fine and I personally recommend it for small families as well. Quite large rooms and decor is Swedish i.e. Ikea. The rooms include TV, CD/DVD player and a refrigerator (and you don't get that even in some four stars). Three minute walk to nearest tram stop. Pleasant outdoor patio. Lists walking distance to the Old Town as 10 minutes but I would allow 20 (tram is better). Offers "free nights" the whole year roundPrague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.citycrown.cz.

3*. Hotel Ariston. The hotel has 65 smart rooms with all facilities including tea/coffee (not standard in 3 star). It has the best hotel ballroom in the city. Front facing rooms will be noisy if the window is open due to the main road and tramline i.e. during hot months. There's also an annexe to the main hotel. Thirty minute walk or 6 minutes by tram to centre. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelariston.cz.

3*. Hotel Ariston Patio. Sister hotel of the Ariston opened in 2009 (it's opposite). 54 rooms and I recommend any that face the internal courtyard. Rooms that face the street can be a bit noisy as it's a main road with a tramline. Rooms are smart and good value. Watchout for great last-minute deals as well. Thirty minute walk or 6 minutes by tram to centre. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelariston.cz/en/hotel_arpatio.html.

3*. Hotel Olsanka. This is of the Czech old school and better known as a conference facility. Was Czech "superior" standard which is 3 star to the rest of us. Decor has not changed much. Hotel is clean and a tram stop is right outside (5 stops to the centre). Rooms at the back are quiet and higher floors have a great view. Five minute walk to the new Flora shopping centre and metro. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelolsanka.cz.

3*. Hotel Seifert. Seifert has 30 "value for money" and reasonably spacious rooms. It's firmly in the three star range but lists itself as 3 and a half stars. Main road and tram stop right outside. Front facing rooms are noisy if the window is open (rooms have ceiling fan but not airconditioning). Twenty minutes walk to centre or 6 minutes by tram so consider buying a travel pass. Recommended for value. Part of the AVE mini-group. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelseifert.cz

3*. Hotel Victoria. Also known as City Partner Victoria, is also in Seifertova. Corner facing doubles have the most room. Child discounts available i.e. an extra bed in a corner facing room (under 6 are free, 6-12 get 50% off). Twenty minutes walk to centre or 6 minutes by tram. Recommended. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelvictoria.cz.

3* Alfa Hotel. You must be prepared to take trams otherwise it's a long walk or you'll be paying for taxis. Located in Milicova 5 almost at the end of Seifertova (just after the church). Rooms are clean and secure. It has a nice outside courtyard if you get good weather. Check that you get a room with a double bed as some are twins. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.alfahotel.cz

3* Hotel Columbo. Located in the same street as Alfa so again you'll be using the tram system. It does not have the outside courtyard like Alfa but I think the room standard is a bit higher and this is shown in being slightly more expensive. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelcolumbo.cz.

3* Hotel Bily Lev. Also known as Hotel White Lion. It's a good budget option if you understand the drawbacks. The hotel itself is good value, clean, secure and has a nice decor. The drawbacks are that you will be walking up the hill to get to the tram stop and then using trams to get to and from the centre (4 stops). The area directly around the hotel has nothing to recommend. Located at Cimburkova 20. Children under 2 are free in the room and children up to 15 get 50% off the adult price. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelbilylev.cz.

3* Hotel U Tri Korunek. Also known as the Hotel at the Three Crowns. Without doubt the best 3 star in the area. Best service, best equipped (especially for disabled persons). Nothing to recommend in the area. Best connection to the centre is by bus otherwise you must walk up to the other main road to get the tram. Often recommended in independent guides. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.3korunky.cz.

2* Blanik Pension. This is about the cheapest option in the area. Located in Cimburkova which is a short walk uphill to Seifertova and then 3-4 stops on the tram to the centre so total travel time is about 20-25 minutes. Doubles in low season start at 1500kc increasing to 2200kc in high season. Rooms are clean but very basic in decor. Breakfast is not included. Cash only and reception is not 24 hours. Prague pensions may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.blanikpension.eu.

2*. Hostel Clown and Bard. This is in Borivojova but it's only a 5 minute walk to the tramline in Seifertova. Opinions vary along the lines of "laid back", "great", "old and dated". It depends on the time of year I guess. I used to recommend this place more as it was cheap. Now I've switched to Miss Sophies. Young crowd and has the "atmosphere" often looked for by hostel clientele. Prices from 200kc for a dorm bed to @1000kc for a double en-suite. Careful with the pricing as some is per/room and others per/person. As a guide, you will find the hostel homepage at www.clownandbard.com.

2*. Hostel Elf. This brings to mind words like cheap and clean. Right next to the main train line so it can get noisy. Public can use the bar...... and often do. Prices are generally per/person. As a guide, you will find the hostel homepage at www.hostelelf.cz.
