Wenceslas Square Accommodation

image
Wenceslas is the long square in the New Town dominated at the top end by the National Museum. Wenceslas Square is lined on both sides by shops and Prague accommodation in the three, four and five star range. It has a reputation for attracting "stag" parties on the main part of the square.

Stag parties will be concentrated mainly in the road called "Ve Smeckach" towards the top of Wenceslas Square on the right. Ve Smeckach is also the highest concentration of strip clubs and sports bars (bear this in mind if you stay at the "K&K Fenix" or the "Andante" which are in this street). Two roads down is "Stepanska" which attracts stag parties to the Rocky O'Reilys bar (just along from the Radisson SAS). Outside the immediate Square you'll find several side streets with good Prague accommodation options and without the beer crowds. To the lower end of Wenceslas Square it becomes the Old Town. At the top end of Wenceslas Square behind the National Museum it becomes Vinohrady. Both of these areas have separate pages for recommendations. In this section you will also find Prague accommodation not only the Square itself but, within a 10 minute walk to it. Wenceslas Square is a 5 minute walk from the main train station (Hlavni Nadrazi). It is a 5 to 15 minute walk from Wenceslas Square to the Old Town Square (depending on how far up the square you are staying). Allow a 35 minute walk to Prague Castle. Legerova is the main 4-lane road coming into Prague from the south including traffic from the main D1 motorway. It is generally busy all day and evening. Sokolska is the 4-lane road taking traffic from central Prague south towards the Brno motorway so unless there is some kind of restriction, traffic will be heavy but flowing.

5*. Radisson Blu Alcron Hotel. Located in Stepanska and two minutes walk from Wenceslas Square. Original Art Deco decor, award-winning restaurant, popular music bar. Generally whether you are here for business or pleasure its a great place. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.radissonblu.com/hotel-prague. Also check the Radisson Online price guarantee.
Something special: The Alcron bar and restaurant.

5*. Sheraton Charles Square Hotel. The Sheraton took over the old Golden Gate Hotel in 2008. Front rooms face a main road so light sleepers should reserve a rear facing room. Five star facilities but the area (next door is a strip club) is not the best. Reasonable French restaurant on site. It's an 8 minute walk to the centre of Wenceslas Square. Charles Square is 30 seconds away and although pleasant during the day I would not go through it at night. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.starwoodhotels.com and follow the Sheraton link.

5*. Hotel Esplanade. This is one of the original five star hotels in Prague. Modernised in 2009 so now has free WIFI!!!. Joking aside the rooms are now up to 5 star standard again with technical upgrades for TVs and aircon etc. "booking.com" says this is in a "quiet area". I guess they forgot to say that the front facing rooms overlook the main highway, although you do have views of the State Opera on the other side. Old style room layouts allowing more space. 1 minute walk from the top of Wenceslas Square. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.esplanade.cz.

5*. Palace Hotel. This is a 3 minute walk from Wenceslas Square. One side of the hotel faces Jindrisska which is a cobblestoned road with a tramline which makes it a little noisy at times. It's one of the oldest five star hotels in Prague and this is shown by very nice public areas but, smallish rooms (executive rooms are bigger). Has a doorman. Free access to World Class Fitness. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.palacehotel.cz.

5*. Hotel Carlo IV. Carlo IV has all the obvious five star hotel trappings, red carpet, guy that opens the door, indoor pool, bellboys etc but then you arrive at the normal room and think "small". The suites are great but this is Prague accommodation where the regular rooms are not spacious enough compared with other Prague hotel options. Ten minute walk to Wenceslas Square. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their group homepage is at www.boscolohotels.com.
Something special: Indoor Pool and wellness area.

5*. Hotel Thalia. Thalia opened in 2008 after a huge renovation project. The result is a fairly large hotel of 125 spacious parket floored rooms (with connecting rooms as well) and roof level accommodation with great views. Five minutes walk to Wenceslas Square or the Old Town. Does it challenge other 5 stars in the area...Yes. Does it challenge other 5 stars in Prague...No unless you want the modern touch. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their group homepage is at www.eurostarsthalia.com.

5*. Hotel Deminka Palace. Still the home of the famous Restaurant Deminka they've developed the building into a new five star hotel located at the junction of Anglicka and Skretova and about an 8 minute walk to the top of Wenceslas Square. This place has history and much of it has been kept by the renovation. Very popular lounge bar. Very stylish for a memorable stay. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their group homepage is at www.deminkapalace.com.

4*+. Hotel Jalta. Jalta is towards the top end of Wenceslas Square. Some hotel directories list it as 5 star, others as a four star and you can understand the confusion as it rates itself as "4 star deluxe". Friendly professional staff. Often a "last minute" hotel with 90 rooms. "Superior Deluxe" rooms face Wenceslas Square. Most of the "Superior" doubles face the rear. Suites have a separate bedroom but they are not spacious. Excellent mediterranean style restaurant called "Como" (expensive starters). Internal conference centre (250). Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hoteljalta.cz.

4*. Hotel Louis Leger. The hotel is at the far end of Legerova which means a 10 minute walk to Wenceslas Square. Light sleepers should not get a room on the street side. Overpriced, overpriced. Hello hotel, you are a four star charging minimum 120 Euros a night so don't ask guests to pay extra 5 euros for internet!!!. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.louisleger.cz.

4*. Accor Novotel. Straightforward Novotel. Clean, professional and you know what to expect. Good location very close to the IP Pavlova metro and tram stops. Less than 5 minutes walk to the top of Wenceslas Square. On-site swimming pool and sauna facilities (pool free for guests). Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.accorhotels.com. Accorhotels.com: Best Price Guarantee

4*. Hotel Yasmin. This is a 3 minute walk from Wenceslas Square set two streets parallel to the square. Opened in 2006 as a "design" hotel. Very modern style compared with most hotels in Prague. Six floors with nearly 200 rooms. Nice noodle/pasta restaurant on site and their garden serves as a restaurant extension between March and October. 2-night packages start at @100 euros per night. Free stuff for booking direct online. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotel-yasmin.cz.

4* Hotel Manes. Manes is opposite the Caesar Palace hotel about 100 metres from the riverfront and a five minute walk to Wenceslas Square. Opened in 2006. Part of the "Euroagentur" group, it has 50 quite spacious rooms. Ground floor restaurant seems popular. You can walk to the Charles Bridge along the riverfront in about 15-20 minutes or back to Wenceslas Square in about 7 minutes. The group homepage for this hotel in Prague is at www.euroagentur.com.

4* Hotel Majestic. Opened in 2007. Completely renovated apartment/commercial block at Stepanska 33 about 3 minutes walk from the middle of Wenceslas Square. Nearly 200 rooms offered (includes apartments) in two price ranges. Superior is the standard room with all regular 4* amenities and individual air-con etc. On the roof are the "Panorama Club" eight executive doubles. This last category has the space and the views. In fact the executive area is separate from the main hotel with it's own terrace. 120-175 euros per night as standard but, you can get weekend breaks for two persons from 200 Euros for two nights. (don't get this mixed up with the Grand Majestic close to Namesti Republiky). Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotel-majestic.cz.

4*. Hotel Elite. Good location about 50 metres from the Narodni Trida metro station so you'll have a five minute walk to Wenceslas Square or 10 minutes to the Old Town Square. In this hotel the suite is the most sought after. All rooms are air-conditioned, stylish and well presented. Stay three nights and get a discount. Nothing to speak of in the street but several nice restaurants within 2 minutes walk. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelelite.cz.

4*. Hotel Metropol. Design hotel. Selling points are that back facing rooms have an "all glass" wall and the rooftop "sun deck" has great views. Extremely small rooms for this class. Caters to small conferences. Located in Narodni so its a five minute walk to Wenceslas Square or ten minutes to the Old Town Square. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.metropolhotel.cz.

4*. Hotel Icon. Design hotel. Located in Ve Jame about 3 minutes walk from Wenceslas Square or 10 minutes to the Old Town Square. Rooms get larger the higher up the class you go but not that large. Very stylish hotel with an all day "a la carte" breakfast and a nice lounge/bar. If you like this then also look at Hotel Moods in the Namesti Republiky section. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.iconhotel.eu.

4*. Mosaic House. Note that this is primarily a building with basic private rooms and hostel-style dormitories which also has it's top floor as four star room accommodation (some with castle view). Sells itself largely as a "green and eco-friendly" hotel and lists it's many building/room specifications for energy saving. Central location close to the Charles Square so you have a 15 minute walk to the Old Town Square or Charles Bridge. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.mosaichouse.com.

4* Hotel 16. The hotel is located about an 8 minute walk from the middle of Wenceslas Square via Stepanska which has some nice bars and restaurants. Independent family run 4 star hotel that's been here longer than me. Pretty good location very close to a hospital complex so although it faces a road it is a fairly quiet area. Competitive pricing and personal service. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotel16.cz.

4* Hotel Sovereign. The hotel is located about an 5 minute walk from the middle of Wenceslas Square or less than 5 minutes to the main railway station. Not on the main road so there's less noise even though it sits on a junction. Fifty rooms and suites decorated in a very modern style. No real WOW! factor but still a perefectly fair example of a Prague four star hotel. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotel-sovereign.cz.

4* 987hotel. Curious name. Part of the 987 hotels group. Does not claim to be a four star but having been there for a visit I believe it's aiming at the top of that class. This is located on the junction of Opletalova and Senovazne Namesti making it a 5 minute walk from the main train station or a 15-20 minute walk to the Old Town via Senovazne or Hybernska. Decoration is an ultra-modern combo of grey walls and dark cherry flooring. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.987praguehotel.com.

4* Hotel Amigo. NOTE: this hotel is currently being upgraded and rebranded as the five star Hotel Alqush. Located at Legerova 13/15 about 10-15 minutes walk to Wenceslas Square or 30-40 minutes to the Old Town. Reasonably priced double rooms are quite spacious but the suites are very good value especially if you want the separate bedroom. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.amigo-hotel.cz or after upgrade it will be at www.alqush-hotel.cz.

4*. Hotel Downtown. Was originally known as Friendly Kosher Downtown as it was aiming at strictly orthodox Jewish clientele. Since reverted back to normal service. On the corner of a busy road so light sleepers should take internal rooms. 5 minute walk to the top of Wenceslas Square. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the group homepage is at www.euroagentur.com.

4*. Hotel Maria Prag. This is opposite the Main railway station on the other side of the small park and has 109 rooms. Three minute walk to Wenceslas Square. Fifteen to twenty minutes walk to the Old Town Square. Suffers from a common issue here, namely "great place, crap staff". Sometimes it's a one-off but, some places have this complaint constantly. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.falkensteiner.com/en/hotel/prag.

4*. Hotel Prague Inn. Prague Inn is located right at the bottom of Wenceslas Square. Prague accommodation whose front rooms have a full view of the square. Very busy pedestrianised area day and night as it funnels pedestrian traffic between Wenceslas Square and the Old Town Square. Hotel has 34 rooms of mostly doubles. Aircon in all rooms. They have the fashionably slick grey/red colour scheme. Some double rooms are interconnectible which is a good option for families. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelpragueinn.cz.

4*. Friday Hotel. This is on Na Prikope in a pedestrianised area approximately a 1 minute walk from the bottom of Wenceslas Square. Formerly the Floor Hotel and before that the Joe Hotel and before that a casino and before that the Prague Planet Hollywood (all in 8 years). Lists itself as charming and stylish but having seen the webpage I'll question the stylish bit. Rooms are spacious but has early check-out and late check-in times. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.fridayhotel.cz.

4*. Hotel Caesar Palace. Opened in 2006. The location is quite good with many small bars and restaurants around. It's an 8 minute walk to Wenceslas Square and another 5 to the Old Town Square. The hotel itself has 82 rooms. Minor issues like skimping (you pay if you use the in-room tea or coffee and the sauna is an extra charge) which should not be seen at a 4* "deluxe" hotel. Light sleepers should try and get a rear facing room as the front overlooks a cobblestoned road with tramline. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelcaesar.cz.

4*. Hotel Ramada. Also called Ramada Grand Hotel Symphony and is located on Wenceslas Square. 88 standard rooms with airconditioning plus 9 apartments (standard and executive) which are spread over three connected buildings. Swedish buffet breakfast. Hotel accommodates the upper floors of the building which makes the entry seem quite small. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their group homepage is at www.euroagentur.com.

4*. Hotel Adria. This is located on the lower half of Wenceslas Square. Very smart and efficient staff (including security). Different room standards. Front rooms face Wenceslas Square but, it's not noisy. A hotel in Prague whose upper floors at the rear overlook the Franciscan Garden. Excellent basement restaurant specialising in fish (Triton). Personally recommended. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.adria.cz.
Something special: the Triton basement restaurant.

4*. Hotel Liberty. This is at the bottom of Wenceslas Square in a pedestrianised area. Twenty standard rooms are on lower floors. 9 executive rooms (spacious) are on the upper floor and the 3 suites (with rooftop and Prague Castle view) are at the top. Aircon in all rooms. Does a nice little "wellness" 3 night package. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelliberty.cz.

4*. Hotel Crystal Palace. Opened in 2008 following a strict format i.e. 50-60 double rooms with options for triples and a specialised handicapped room facility. Conference handling up to 60 people. Small "relax centre" with Wellness extras which can be booked. Buffet breakfast. Quiet street but, only a six minute walk to Wenceslas Square via Stepanska. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their group homepage is at www.euroagentur.com.

4*. Hotel Unitas. What used to be the old Pension Unitas and the Art Prison Hostel has been renovated into a four star hotel but they still highlight their history. They've done their best to get round as many renovation problems as possible and it is smart but we'll have to wait for reviews. I hope they can keep all that white decoration clean. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.unitas.cz.

4*. Hotel U Suteru. This is a hotel in Prague that upgraded from 3 star class with an excellent location just 100 metres from Vaclavske Namesti in a reasonably quiet street (for the centre of Prague). Four floors incorporate singles, doubles and two apartments. I recommend for the apartments and the relatively cheap singles but, beware, there is no lift in this building. Part of the small "accomprague" group. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.usuteru.cz.

4*. Accome Julis. These are luxury Prague apartments towards the top of Wenceslas Square. 72 very modern and fully equipped apts with kitchenettes. Prague apartments are either "small studio", "large studio" or "one bedroom". Light sleepers should get rear (garden) facing rooms as this end of the square is noisy at the front. Free internet in reception. Free use of sauna/pool and the basement "World Class Gym" with pass supplied by the hotel (pool is 20 metres). Recommended. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.accome.biz. (click on the "our hotels" link).

4*. Hotel and Residence Praga1. This hotel upgraded from 3 star in 2008 (and I can't see any difference). It's a 5 minute quick walk to Wenceslas Square. Front rooms face a busy road. Clean and smart but no real public area. Often has "last minute" deals. Little bit let down by the road location and the strip bar opposite but, hotel itself is fine. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.praga1.cz.

4*. Hotel Sonata. Opened in 2009. Sixty rooms (mostly doubles and three triples). Six minute walk to Wenceslas Square. Located on a busy road junction so consider booking an internal room if you are a light sleeper. Sonata has a small wellness area (basically a big bathroom with a sauna which can be hired and they offer extra massage services etc). Discounted entry to World Class Fitness on Wenceslas Square. Suitable for conferences up to 55 people. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their group homepage is at www.euroagentur.com.

4*. Hotel Amarilis. Opened in 2008. Operated by the Jerome group. Non-smoking hotel. 48 doubles. 11 deluxe which can take an extra bed and 5 suites (most with terrace and rooftop views). You can use their wellness centre for an extra 600kc per hour (most hotels only charge for the sauna but here you pay for everything). Massages are also available for an extra charge. Quite reasonable room/suite charges for the location only 2 minutes walk from Wenceslas Square. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelamarilis.cz.

4*. Hotel Tyl. Tyl upgraded from 3 star in 2008 and is now part of the Garzotto group. New refurbishment in all 33 rooms including fittings, furniture and airconditioning. They also added a fitness area with free whirlpool (but you pay for the sauna). It is located 60 seconds from the IP Pavlova metro station and 5 minutes from the top of Wenceslas Square. Friendly staff. Internet booking discount. Front of the hotel overlooks Tylovo Namesti (a pleasant square). Several reasonable restaurants and bars nearby. Personally recommended. Deluxe double has a separate single bedroom making it a good family option. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hoteltyl.cz.

4*. Hotel Rokoko. Rokoko is located on Wenceslas Square. Looks like a big hotel but has only 48 rooms in a mixture of doubles and twins (plus two triples) and two junior suites suitable for families (no kitchenette). Airconditioned rooms are available but not as standard. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their group homepage is at www.hotel-rokoko.info.

4*. Hotel Seven Days. Opened in 2007. Also called Boutique Hotel Seven Days. Located on a VERY busy road junction so if you're a light sleeper consider getting an internal room. Five minutes walk to Wenceslas Square and 20 minutes to the Old Town Square. No smoking hotel. Airconditioned. Children under 12 stay in the parents room for free. Sex shops on the opposite corner and about 5 doors down as well. I don't recommend this place for families. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelsevendays.com.

4*. Residence Suite Home. Twenty eight apartments ranging from 35 to 120 square metres. Long stay options available. Does some good weekend deals with extras thrown in (airport pickup etc). Five minute walk to Wenceslas Square. One side of the building faces Zitna. If you're a light sleeper try and get an apartment facing Pricna. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.suitehome.cz.
Something special: Rooftop Terrace.

4*. Archibald City. This is one of a pair of hotels, the other (and much better) one is in Mala Strana. This one is located about 5 minutes walk from Wenceslas Square. Hotel ameneties and room spec is very good but, I recommend getting a room NOT at the front as this is a VERY busy road. Not much in the road itself unless you would like to visit one of the four or five sex shops at the top of the road. As you'll be walking to Wenceslas Square I advise you to use the road Stepanska with it's nice shops and restaurants rather than Ve Smeckach with it's sport bars and strip clubs. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.archibald.cz.

4*. Hotel Christie. One of a small group called "New Age" hotels. Located about 75 metres from the Narodni Trida metro station and a 5 minute walk from Wenceslas Square. 135 rooms, some interconnectible and often used by conference traffic because of the two meeting halls. Two restaurants, the one in the cellar can be privately hired. Room size is fairly generous but a little bit overpriced in the main season unless you can get a deal. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelchristie.cz.

4*. Hotel Green Garden. Located on the corner of Fugnerovo Namesti and Legerova (busy highway all day/night). The hotel is green but not the garden. This is a tiled area covered and heated in the winter. Think of it as a very pleasant courtyard conservatory. Reasonable wellness area (jacuzzi, sauna, massage). Five minute walk along a busy road to the top of Wenceslas Square. IP Pavlova metro/tram is a 3 minute walk. WIFI available in the public areas only. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelgreengarden.cz.

3*+ Prague Centre - Superior. Located on the main Legerova road but over-standard double glazing and air-con seems to have solved the noise issue. Very good value for money with online discounts up to 20% for advance bookings. Very pleasant rooftop bar area. Children under 6 free in the room and under 12 get 50% off the extra bed rate. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.praguecentre.cz.

3*+ Prague Centre - Plaza. Located on the main Legerova road just across the road from it's sister hotel. Some strange partitioning went on in this one. Bigger than it's sister hotel it also has the garden atrium and wellness area including Prague's first SALT CAVE!!!. Try and get a room overlooking Fugnerovo Namesti as this side faces the quieter square rather than the busy street. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.praguecentreplaza.cz.

3* Residence Bologna. Located at Konviktska 5 on the edge of the Old Town. The residence aligns itself to the 3 star class. Eighty apartments available with widely ranging amenities depending on what you want (make this clear on the reservation form). Maximum capacity is 6 persons and that includes two additional extra beds in the living room. In general most of the one bedrooms have kitchenettes. Not all the studios have kitchenettes. All beds are singles or twins. Good location on the Old Town border about 8 minutes walk to the bottom of Wenceslas Square. The on-site restaurant has themed nights so choose carefully. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.residencebologna.cz.

3*. Accor Ibis. Straightforward Ibis. Building partnered with the Novotel so you can enjoy their bar/restaurant. You buy a 200Kc voucher which entitles you to as many visits as you want to the Novotel wellness/gym facility. (Gym is 24 Hours). Good location very close to the IP Pavlova metro and tram stops. Less than 5 minutes walk to the top of Wenceslas Square. One of 4 Ibis hotels in Prague. You pay a bit extra here but its worth it for the location. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.accorhotels.com. Accorhotels.com: Best Price Guarantee

3* Hotel St George. Located on the junction of Sokolska and Tyrsova. Sokolska is a very busy road so light sleepers should ask for a Tyrsova facing room. 56 well appointed rooms and a reasonable fitness area. Children up to 14 FREE in the room. Many "3 for 2" offers off-season. 10 minute walk to the top of Wenceslas Square or 30 minutes to the Old Town. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotel-st-george.com

3* Hotel City Club. Located just before the Nusle Bridge and next to a very busy road. It's a 10-15 minute walk to Wenceslas Square or 35-40 minutes to the Old Town. 106 rooms (I recommend the internal facing ones) of varying decor from neutral to "in your face". Extra discounts off-season. Children under 6 free in the room. Children under 12 get 50% off extra bed (and it's a single bed i.e. not a sofa-bed). Half-Board terms offered to groups. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.city-club.cz

3* Hotel Meran. Not hard to see that this is a two star hotel that upgraded to 3 star. Located right in the centre of Wenceslas Square. The hotel has 20 rooms (includes 5 singles), a very colourful history and a great location but, amenities are weak and it's way overpriced for the general offer. You want historical and quaint then this is your place. You want amenities, style and value then look elsewhere. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelmeran.cz.

3* Hotel Legie. The Legie is on the busy road junction of Sokolska and Jecna i.e. right next to the IP Pavlova metro station. Rooms were upgraded to get rid of the old 70's look but there's nothing they can do about the building. It's really good value off-season for a double and breakfast is included (sometimes has 3 for 2 offers as well). Light sleepers should take internal rooms or upper floors. The location is good with a five minute walk to the top of Wenceslas Square or 20 minutes to the Old Town. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.legie.cz.

3* Hotel Ankora. This is the sister hotel of the Legie (it is next door) but it's newer and hence much more modern. It offers both rooms and apartments. Rooms are bright but Double rooms are a bit cramped. The Deluxe Double spec is actually a studio apartment with kitchenette. See if you can get one of the rooftop rooms for a great view. Located next to the IP Pavlova metro on a main junction. Five minute walk to Wenceslas Square. This hotel also offers high quality apartments (but I would not call them 5-star as the hotel lists them). Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelankora.cz.

3* Tivoli Hotel. This is 150 metres further up the road from the Legie. Perfectly nice and clean 3 star Prague hotel with normal amenities and friendly staff. Only two drawbacks. First, it is on the busiest main road in Prague so if you are a light sleeper take an internal facing room. Note that the street facing rooms have air-con during the Summer months. Second, Tivoli views a double bed as two singles pushed together so check with the hotel if they really will give you a proper double before you book. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.tivolihotel.cz.

3* Hotel Brixen. Again in the same street (Sokolska 44) and just down from the Tivoli. Again most rooms face the busy street so light sleepers beware. No way this is worth 150 Euros a night for a double. Much better value options even in the 4 star offer. I only recommend for the connecting rooms making a decent family option. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.brixen.cz (and scroll down to the Prague option).

3* Pension Brezina. Rates as a 3* hotel now it has expanded. It now takes up two buildings and has 50 rooms spread over four floors including the attics. Front facing rooms face a very busy street so light sleepers beware. I recommend this place for families with one child or two small children as the hotel will accommodate extra beds in the bigger rooms like the attics. Also the unseen bonuses of the Pension are that the built in restaurant "Legenda" has really nice food (beer garden at the back) and the Pension has a very pleasant grassed GARDEN at the rear. Note that breakfast is NOT included in the price (extra 120kc). Computer internet connection requires RJ45 LAN cable. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.brezina.cz.
Something special: the garden.

3*. Old Town Residence. For those who really want to be in the centre of things but, it's not in the Old Town. This has 5 apartments located at the corner of Narodni and Spalena. It's a busy area day and night and the squeaky trams go around the corner 24 hours a day. Overpriced for the top season but reasonable value at other times. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.oldtownresidence.com.

3*. Pension Alabastr. Personally recommended. Not stylish but great price for the location (especially the apartment), roomy and has more than the necessary room facilities for this class. 21 rooms equipped with kitchenettes (MW, cooker and fridge), Sat TV and wifi. Located on a side road from Vodickova which makes it a 4 minute walk to Wenceslas Square or 10-15 to the Old Town Square. Lots of little bars and restaurants in the area. Stop in the "Art Cafe" down the road. Breakfast included. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.pensionalabastr.cz.

3*. Hotel Da Vinci. Sandwiched between the main Police station and the main Prague highway. Perfectly nice rooms, great staff but very noisy location. Strictly to be used as a base from which to explore the city. Don't expect to be lounging in reception. One of a pair of hotels (sister is the Da Vinci Old Town - which by the way is not in the old town at all). It's a seven minute walk to the top of Wenceslas Square. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hoteldavinci.cz.

3*. Hotel Colloseum. Also known as Colloseum U Cerneho Konicka, it is located at Myslikova 28 (Spalena end of the road). Seven minute walk to Wenceslas Square. Ten minute walk to the Charles Bridge via the riverside. 30 double rooms (some with space for extra bed). Excellent Czech-style restaurant on-site. Not a great webpage so it's best to email them with your requirement. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotel-colloseum.cz.

3*. Hotel Museum. A 3 star hotel in Prague that upgraded from B&B. One of my personal recommendations as several friends have stayed here over the years. Twelve spacious garden facing rooms, all at the back i.e. not visible from the main road or Wenceslas Square. One minute walk to the top of Wenceslas Square. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.pension-museum.cz.

3*. Hotel Musketyr. It was a pension that received an almost total refurbishment to be upgraded to the three star class. Located 2 doors up from the Pension Museum. I've not visited since the reconstruction. They have two classes of room (1st Class or Standard). Room 102 is popular. It's called the "Wedding Room" and has a glass partition between the bathroom and the bedroom (separate wc). First class rooms have the view (get 500 if you can). I think the "standard" rooms are over-priced. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.musketyr.com.

3*. Hotel Expres. It is also known as the Old Prague Hotel. Located in Skorepka about midway between Wenceslas and the Old Town Square. Basic three star Prague accommodation. Good deals if you are prepared to book room-only and share a bathroom. Attic rooms are the biggest i.e. triples. Refurbished in 2007 with "stylish mahogany" furniture!!. Area is "fruity" i.e. couple of sex shops but, nothing hard. Early check-out (11am). It offers a discount for cash. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotel-expres.com or www.oldpraguehotel.cz.

3*. Hotel Tchaikovsky. Located between the Karlovo Namesti and the IP Pavlova metro stations. Nice little place with a very Italian style. Don't let the street it's in put you off. Seems a little off the track but in reality has quite a good location for the price. Fifteen minute walk to Wenceslas Square and 20 minutes to the Old Town. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hoteltchaikovsky.com.

3*. Hotel Dahlia Inn. A "Design" hotel located between at Lipova 20. You'll have an 8 minute walk straight down Stepanska to get to Wenceslas Square. Very bright and fresh decor, almost minimalist in the spacious rooms. Good value. They also have apartments in Prague 8. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.dahliainn.com.

3*. Hotel Jerome House. Located very close to the National Theatre. Rooms are basic but clean. Larger rooms suitable for extra bed for child but will be a squeeze for an adult. Pros - location and upgraded public areas, triple room for price of double. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.jerome.cz (Note: Jerome now operates their own travel service and hotel group so you'll see a choice of hotels).

3*. Aparthotel Lublanka. This is a good option for people who don't mind an old building in a regular Czech street but want to be a 5 minute walk from Wenceslas Square. Has a decent public bar on the premesis. Large rooms. All apartments have kitchenettes. The 2+2 is good for families (1 double and 2 single beds). The Penthouse has four single beds and a double sofabed in the living room. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.lublanka.cz.

3*. Hotel Beranek. Located in Tylovo Namesti close to the IP Pavlova metro/tram connections and about a 5 minute walk away from the top of Wenceslas Square. Typical modern Czech 3 star with 80 airconditioned rooms. Good value and good Prague location. On site garage with 12 spaces. 10% off if your stay includes a Sunday off-season. You can contact them direct using SKYPE (hotelberanek). Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelberanek.com.

3*. Hotel Elysee. Lists itself as 3 and a half stars. Prague accommodation with the top four floors of a commercial building on Wenceslas Square. The hotel is accessed by walking into the old shopping passage and the reception is on the first floor. On my last visit, twice I rang the reception buzzer and nobody answered. Lookout for big last minute discounts on the apartments. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelelysee.cz.

3*. Hotel Chopin. This was formerly known as the Holiday Inn by Express. Located opposite the entry of the main railway station (Hlavni Nadrazi). Basic 3 star, clean and smart but small rooms. A bit like Novotel was 10 years ago. Often has "last minute" deals and popular with groups. Five minute walk to Wenceslas Square. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelchopin.cz.

3*. Hotel Alton. Located approx 30 seconds from the IP Pavlova metro station and a 5 minute walk from the top of Wenceslas Square. Front facing rooms overlook the busiest road in Prague but the windows are sound proofed very well (all rooms are airconditioned). Nice staff. Nice and clean. Prague accommodation with disabled rooms that have more space. Garage on site has 7 spaces. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelalton.cz.

3*. Hotel Andante. A good budget choice. The hotel is very nice. It has rooms and small apartments (extra sofabed can be added) and is only a 3 minute walk from Wenceslas Square. The only thing that lets it down is the street. If you like a quiet walk then this is not for you. Three strip clubs and three sport bars attract the stag party groups. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.andante.cz.

3*. Pension B35. Also called Residence Belehradska 35 and is a bit more than 5 minutes walk to Wenceslas Square (15 mins) but, it's only three tram stops and it's such a good place I've included it here. It has 16 apartments of 4 different combinations. Pros - Family run, fairly cheap. Nice apartments. Cons - Public transport or taxis after dark. Note that breakfast is not included. Personally recommended. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.b35.cz.

3*. Hotel Pav. The hotel got a total refit in 2006 to upgrade from the dour old Pension Pav. Now a "Best Western" hotel with above average room sizes and ammenities. In the same street is the famous "U Fleku" beerhall. You'll have a 15 minute walk to either the Old Town Square or the Charles Bridge. The hotel airport pickup service is also quite reasonable. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotel-pav.cz.

3*. Old Time Hotel. Well this has to be listed as an independently run hotel. Big rooms and if you can reconcile the decoration then it is great value for money. Located at Lublanska 27 which is less than 10 minutes walk to the top of Wenceslas Square. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.oldtimehotel.com.

3*. Hotel Abe. Big rooftop rooms but overpriced for the class. You are paying for the location. Avoid front facing rooms as they overlook the main 4-lane road coming into Prague. Located at Legerova 22 which is 10 minutes walk to the top of Wenceslas Square. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelabe.cz.

3*. Botel Matylda. The newest of the botels in Prague and by far the most expensive at @100 euros per night. Great location right opposite the Dancing House and adjacent to the Slavonic Island. A walk to the Old Town Square would take 25 minutes. During the booking process it says the name is Klotylda. At present this is moored right next to the Matylda so essentially its the same place for sleeping but Matylda has the restaurant. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.botelmatylda.cz.

2*. Kafka Castle. Grand name for the offer. Basic apartments located right opposite the Narodni Trida metro station. Central and ideal for public transport to and from the airport. The tramline in front of the building runs 24 hours. Note that prices are "from" i.e. you'll need to get a quote for the period that you want. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.kafkascastle.cz.

Apartments Lenka. These Prague apartments are located in the building behind the Jizera restaurant towards the top of Wenceslas Square. Mainly suitable for two persons but some are big enough to comfortably take an extra bed. Fully equipped kitchen. Prices based on 3 seasons and quite good value for the location. Breakfast only included July/August on the terrace or 150kc the rest of the year served in the restaurant. Prague apartments may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.apartmentslenka.com.

Apartments Dasha. Apartments offered in different formats. Bigger rooms have a marriage bed and one or two singles. Smaller rooms may have either a marriage bed or two singles. En-suite and kitchen/bathroom sharing in one of the apartments. Located in Jeruzalemska just along from the synagogue which is a 5 minute walk to Wenceslas Square or the Old Town. Internet is extra and you'll need a LAN cable (RJ45). Prague apartments may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.accommodation-dasha.cz.

2*. Hostel Miss Sophies. The first of a pair of modern hostels (the other is the "Czech Inn" in the Vinohrady area) and I personally recommend both. Excellent facilities, lots of options for dorms (up to 5 sharing), en-suite rooms (single/double/twin) or even private apartments. Free internet, breakfast (with kitchen) included. Friendly staff. As a guide, you will find the Prague hostel homepage at www.miss-sophies.com.

2*. Pension Merlin. Five minute walk to Charles Square or a 15 minute walk to the centre. Lots of room options but it can be tricky to understand what you will get. "Bathroom in the room" means en-suite. "Own Bathroom outside room" means you get a private bath/wc but you leave the room to get to it. "Bathroom for two rooms" is shared bath/wc. Double rooms have marriage beds. Some rooms have kitchen. Accepts dogs. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.accommerlin.cz.

2* Hostel Oz. Located opposite the Narodni Trida metro station. Five rooms available including mixed dorms 7/8 and private doubles. Breakfast not included. No great atmosphere but it's a good location if you want a cheap Prague accommodation option. Rooms on the second and third floors but no lift. Prague hostels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.ozapartmenthotelspraha.com.

2* Hostel Rosemary. Prices based on Winter/Summer seasons and starting at 10 Euros a night for a larger dorm. Prices do not include breakfast. Private en-suite rooms with kitchenette available. Pretty good location about 3 minutes walk from the main railway station and another 5 minutes to Wenceslas Square. Prague hostels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.praguecityhostel.cz.

2* Hostel Chili. Located at Pstrossova 7 in the New Town. 12 minute walk to Wenceslas Square or 15 minutes to either the Old Town Square or Charles Bridge. This place has the atmosphere looked for by backpackers. Dormitories are mixed but private rooms can be turned into mini female-only dorms. Deposits are required for electrical goods, key/linen etc. Nice beer cellar and a small games room for relaxing with a beer and playing a little pool or table football. Breakfast is not included but at 80kc for a buffet is worth it and it's served to the room.........JOKING... Prague hostels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.chili.dj.

2*. Church Pension. Located in Jungmannova above the Divadlo Kalich, very central location with excellent views from the 5th floor. Ten minute walk to the Old Town Square and less to Wenceslas. Cheap options if you are OK to share a bathroom etc. Breakfast available but not included in the price. Prague accommodation with basic amenities (some en-suite). A Christian church pension. The homepage for this hotel in Prague is at www.churchpension.cz.

2*. Pension Zderaz. Located a short walk from Karlovo Namesti (Charles Square) which makes it a comfortable 15 minutes walk to the Charles Bridge or 20 minutes to the Old Town Square. The apartments are basic having mostly single beds, a kitchen but no TV (can be hired for extra). They accept dogs. Good for families on a tight budget who need a bit of extra space. Oh! and look out for the Monk!! Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.zderaz.com.

2*. Hostel Downtown. Basically fill in the arrival/departure and click OK. You'll be presented with "average" prices for different types of rooms. This place has a female-only dormitory. There's a good deal for 4/5 people sharing a room with bathroom. Other than that there are better options for hostels. Located in Narodni about 150 metres from the National Theatre and a 6 minute walk to Wenceslas Square. Prague hostels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hostel-downtown.cz.

2*. Hostel Emma. One of the newer hostels here but not in my top 10. Located close to Karlovo Namesti (15 minute walk to Wenceslas Square or the Charles Bridge). All bathrooms are shared. Good option for a single room off-season (without facilities). No Breakfast. Prague hostels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hostel-emma.com.

2*. Hostel Bontour. Basic Prague accommodation (10 minute walk to Wenceslas Square or 15 minutes to the Charles Bridge). All bathrooms are shared but they do offer private rooms. Off-season prices from 7 euros with discounts for more than three nights and ISIC. Nice area with many small bars and restaurants. Dorms have an age limit of 30 years old. Prague hostels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.bontourhostel.cz but the www.bontour.hostel.com webpage is easier to understand.

2*. Hostel AZ. Very central location just 60 seconds from the centre of Wenceslas Square. All rooms have shared bathroom facilities. There are private room options. Only problem here seems to be the storage i.e. not vey much room to put your stuff if you are in a dorm. Prague hostels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hostel-az.cz.

2*. Hostel Papillon. Located a 4 minute walk from Wenceslas Square. Well that was the high point. It's downhill from there. Even for a hostel, it has a reputation for not being the cleanest place in Prague and that's being kind. I don't recommend this hostel. As a guide, you will find the Prague hostel homepage at www.papillon-hostel.cz.

2*. Hostel Junior. This is a 10 minute walk from Wenceslas Square or 15-20 minutes from the Old Town Square. Now part of the Euroagentur group. Lots of room combinations for 4 people up to 8 people sharing a room. Good services like internal restaurant, laundry etc. Includes breakfast. Recommended. As a guide, you will find the Prague hostel represented at www.junior.prague-hostels.cz.

2*. B&B Inna Kosova. This is not a spelling mistake (Inna Kosova is the landlady's name). Classic Czech B&B but what a location, right next to the National Museum at the top of Wenceslas Square. Decor is a bit purple but, what the hell. Prices from 18U$ per person and the apartments can sleep four. As a guide, you will find the homepage at www.sweb.cz/kosovainna/us1.html.
