Vinohrady Accommodation

Vinohrady is the area on the other side of the highway above the National Museum. It extends about 800 metres up the road called Vinohradska and approx 300 metres to one side to include the area around Namesti Miru (metro). On the other side it borders Zizkov.

All types of accommodation. Good area for small bars, independent shops and restaurants etc. Vinohradska is mainly accessed by tram (night service) but, it has metro stations at Jiriho z Podebrad (Zizkov, Prague 3 border) and Namesti Miru. Vinohrady is recognised as a fairly exclusive area especially the part that borders Riegerovy Sady (the park). Almost all the buildings in the area are old brick built structures favoured by the Prague elite. In Namesti Miru look out for the "Cheers" bar and the Sahara Cafe. My own favourite restaurant bar in the area is "L'Ardois" on the corner of Bruselska and Londynska.

5*. Hotel Le Palais. This is the only 5 star in the area. Again this is on the far side of Namesti Miru. Very quiet as it's at the end of a street. Consistently ranked in the top 5 Prague hotels. It's a 15 minute walk to the nearest metro at IP Pavlova but, the tram stop is only 2 minutes. It's possible to walk to the centre in about 25 minutes. Stylish and luxurious with excellent service. Personally recommended. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.palaishotel.cz.

4*. Courtyard Marriott. Opened 2006 as part of the overall Flora business complex. Standard Marriott service and fittings i.e. Frequent Flyer country. Two metro stops to Wenceslas Square or 4 stops to the Old Town Square. Walking to Wenceslas Square would be about 30 minutes. As a guide, you will find the hotel group homepage at www.marriott.co.uk/hotels/travel/prgcy-courtyard-prague-flora/

4*. Ametyst Hotel. Located over on the Namesti Miru side. You'll have a 10 minute walk to the metro station or 5 minutes to the tramline in Belehradska. A few small bars and restaurants in the area. If you use the tram then the area around IP Pavlova has the most action closest to you and is good value compared with really central bars. The hotel itself has 84 parket floored rooms, reasonably quiet street and walking into the centre will take approximately 30 minutes. They had a refit in 2008 and as well as increasing the spec and brightening the rooms they also introduced a lot of nice art (well I like it) onto the walls. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelametyst.cz.

4* Hotel Galileo. Located at Bruselska 3 which is a 5 minute walk to the IP Pavlova metro/tram station or 15 minutes walk to the top of Wenceslas Square. Tastefully decorated rooms and suites. Some rooms can accommodate extra beds for families. Hotel does various packages and free airport transfers (depending on how much you are spending on your trip). Some small bars and restaurants in the area but, be prepared to be walking a lot. If you are ok with trams then the no.22 will take you from Mala Strana all the way to IP Pavlova. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelgalileoprague.com.

4* Sieber Hotel. Quite rare in Prague, a family-run four star hotel. It's at the expensive end with singles starting at 4500kc but the double is only 300kc more and a large suite is 5500kc so I guess why not pay the extra for more space. The hotel sells on the service so it's recommended for those who absolutely must have everything just right or they'll raise it with the manager. Easiest to access via metro or tram. A walk to Wenceslas Square would take 20-25 minutes. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.sieber.cz.

4* Hotel Arkada. If the Sieber Hotel is at the top of it's class, Arkada is towards the bottom. Certainly it's higher than a regular 3 star and it makes a good attempt but the 4 star class in Prague is a tough sell. Room size is very good and you can walk to Wenceslas Square in 6 minutes but I just don't see a high enough room spec for it to challenge this class. That said it's pretty good value off-season and you can still get a good last-minute deal. It's in a quiet steet with a pleasant park close by. Treat this place as a good three star and you won't be disappointed. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.arkadahotel.cz.

3* Hotel Lunik. Located in Londynska which is a 5 minute walk from either the Namesti Miru or the IP Pavlova metro stations in the 2nd district or a 10-15 minute walk to the top of Wenceslas Square. Overpriced given the competition. Even offering children under 10 free doesn't make up for the prices. I would only recommend this if you can get a good online deal. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotel-lunik.cz.

3* Hotel Orion. Part of the okhotels group. Good deals on suites and double rooms. All have kitchenettes. It's a 5 minute walk along Americka to get to Namesti Miru and another 10 minutes to get to the top of Wenceslas Square. Look out for suite #64 (the rooftop suite) as I think it's worth the extra money to make a more memorable stay. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their group homepage is at www.okhotels.cz.

3* Hotel Sibelius. Sister hotel to the Orion listed above. Same walking distance. The hotel has good options for one and two bedroom apartments. Nothing stylish but, good value for families. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.okhotels.cz.

3* Hotel Abri. Also known as San Marco Abri. 15 minute walk to the top of Wenceslas Square or two minutes to the local tram stop (no.22) which will get you to Mala Strana. 25 double rooms (some are doubles and some are twins). Clean and smart but no extra style to report. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.abri.cz.

3* Hotel City Bell. Located at Belgicka 10 in Vinohrady. Generally recommended for good value but, especially recommended for families as it has inter-connected rooms with private hallway. Nothing stylish but, cheap, clean and spacious. Many small bars and restaurants in the area. Good tram connection to IP Pavlova or a 15 minute walk to the top of Wenceslas Square. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelcitybell.cz.

3* Hotel Chodska. Small doubles (Standard) are regular size. The "Grand" rooms are big enough to take an extra single bed and a cot if necessary. Decor is a bit startling (not that I don't like red and blue clashing) but, the location is good with a 10-15 minute walk to the top of Wenceslas Square. It's also on tram routes 10 and 16 with a night tram option as well. For people who don't intend spending much time in the room. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelchodska.cz

3*. Hotel Balbin. Sixteen rooms mostly doubles but, with triples and a 4-bed plus a 2-bedroom family apartment. Fifteen minute walk into the centre. Closest metro is Muzeum. They offer free transport from the airport and free internet/wifi. Little overpriced (the 4* Arkada along the street is actually cheaper). Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.balbin.cz.

3*. Belgicka Residence. This is an award winning apartment residence. Twenty apartments ranging from studio to 2-bed. Pleasant area very close to Namesti Miru (nearest metro). Two metro stops to the centre or a 20 minute walk. As a guide, you will find the hotel group homepage at www.mamaison.com/prague-residence-belgicka-prague.html.

3*. Hotel Tosca. This is located two minutes walk from Namesti Miru. No frills. Friendly staff. You must be prepared to use the metro system in most cases although a tram is an option to Karlovo Namesti (Charles Square). Tram stops right in front of the hotel. Part of the expanding Euroagentur group and a little expensive for my liking. Good for a long weekend and the fifth floor has aircon. Often has discounts of up to 30% for last minute direct booking. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.euroagentur.com/en/ea-hotel-tosca.cz.

Find the best deal, compare prices and read what other travelers have to say about hotels in Prague.

2* Pension Beetle. For people happy to use trams as public transport. Take either the tram 4 or tram 22 and a short walk will get you there. Good options for suites and separate bedrooms. Recommended to buy transport passes for adults (remember that an adult with a validated travel pass can accompany a child aged 6 to 14 without the child needing a ticket). Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.pension-beetle.cz.

2* Penzion Manes. Recommended for it's general value and location putting it close to several nice bars and restaurants. Located in Manesova in a grey looking apartment block but the pension is friendly. Doubles are marriage beds. Triples are marriage beds with an extra single. No style but, clean and secure. 10 minute walk to Wenceslas Square or there are tram options one street over in Vinohradska. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.penzionmanes.cz

2*. Pension Domov Mladeze. Also called Pension Jana (there are two pension Jana's here) is at the far end of Vinohradska, a 5 minute walk from the Flora centre/metro/tram. Area is very architecturally appealing. Hotel is basic (floats between 2 star and hostel) but, smart and clean. Quiet cobblestoned street. Various local bars and restaurants within 5 minutes walk. A walk into town would take approx 40 mins or 3 stops on the metro. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so they are represented at www.dhotels.cz.

2*. Hostel Czech Inn. This is possibly the highest standard hostel at present with the exception of Miss Sophies. Lots of new fittings etc. Attracts a good crowd by the sound of it. Not the cheapest by far and you'll be using trams or the metro most of the time (buy a travel pass). Recommended. As a guide, you will find the hostel homepage at www.czech-inn.com.
