Ujezd/Andel Accommodation

Our Lady Victorious
Both Andel and Ujezd are technically in the Prague 5 area but only three tram stops to Mala Strana or six stops to the Old Town. Andel has a metro station and is also the location of a large bus terminus known as "Na Knizeci".

Ujezd is approximately 300 metres from the Prague area officially known as Mala Strana which starts at the Hunger Wall (Funicular). Public transport is limited to trams although it's only a five or ten minute walk to Malostranske Namesti. Ujezd tram stop is opposite the Funicular. In the immediate area are my favourite Mexican restaurant (Cantina) and my favourite cafe (Cafe Savoy). Next to the Savoy is the Olympia bar/restaurant in the Kolkovna group. Also in the area you'll find a reasonable selection of small bars (look for La Bastille), restaurants and small shops. Ask your hotel for directions to the riverfront restaurant called "Rezava Kotva" (Rusty Anchor - Great food and view over the weir towards the Dancing House).

Andel is a more cosmopolitan area with excellent public transport connections for bus, tram and metro. Andel (also called Novy Smichov) has a large shopping centre, two cinemas and a good selection of bars and restaurants. Andel has the bigger hotels like Andels Design, Angelo and the Movenpick along with some smaller 3 star options located on the main road.

5* Hotel Riverside. Ujezd. Hotel Riverside is one of the newer 5 stars. It's on a busy road junction but, once inside you'd never notice. You'll find yourself walking a lot or else taking taxis as it's not convenient for either metro or tram. Front facing rooms have New/Old Town river view. Square facing rooms have river view. Recommended. Part of the Ma-Maison group. As a guide, you will find this Prague hotel homepage at www.riversideprague.com.

5* Hotel General. Andel. One of the oldest hotels in Prague but, fairly hidden away. Located on a main road in the old commercial district of Smichov so I recommend rear-courtyard facing rooms. You'll have some walking to do (25 minutes to Mala Strana or the Old Town). It's less than 5 minutes walk to the Andel Metro and the surrounding area with it's bars and restaurants but you will only be coming here for a meal or to use the metro/tram system. In-room safe deposit will take a standard 15" laptop. Not particularly good value but it targets a specific clientele. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotel-general.com.

4* Angelo Hotel. Andel. Purpose built modern four star hotel in the centre of Andel. Spacious rooms. Suites occupy the top floor and have nice views over Prague (with outdoor terrace as well). Good packages with free room upgrades offered. A popular choice for business travellers and conferences who want something a bit different than the Hilton/Holiday Inn etc. Good gym but wellness services are extra. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.angelohotel.com.

4* Hotel Andel. Upgraded from 3* in 2009. 36 rooms (single/double/triple). Technically this is Smichov but expect a 10 minute walk to get to the centre of Andel. The hotel itself was renovated in 2009 so the room spec was greatly increased. Front facing rooms overlook a main road. There are a few FREE parking spaces otherwise you park on a nearby street or there's an option for paid secure parking about a 5 minute walk away. Tram stop outside the hotel that takes you into Mala Strana or the New Town. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelandel.cz.

4* Hotel Kinsky Garden. 62 rooms single/double/triple in two categories standard/executive (executive rooms are bigger and have jacuzzi bath). Street facing rooms also have a view of the Kinsky park opposite. It's a 5 minute walk down to the main road where the tramline is situated. From the closest stop it's two stops in either direction to Andel or Mala Strana. Malostranske Namesti would be a 25-30 minute walk. The Old Town Square would be 30-40 minutes depending on the route. Full payment three weeks in advance will get a 20% discount. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelkinskygarden.cz.

4* Red and Blue Design Hotel. Ujezd. Located a bit further up the road than the Kinsky and front facing rooms have the park view. Rear facing rooms called "Superior Design" have city views and are bigger. I like the red rooms but, not too keen on the blue. Five minute walk to the nearest tram stop. One stop to Andel or two stops to Malostranske Namesti. 35 minute walk to the Old Town Square. As a guide, you will find this Prague hotel homepage at www.redandbluehotels.com.

4* Hotel Roma. Ujezd. Hotel Roma is opposite the Ujezd tram stop which is great for travel but, not so great if it's outside your window. No complaints about the rear facing rooms. Lists itself as 4 star "deluxe" whatever that means. Ten minute walk to Malostranska. As a guide, you will find this Prague hotel homepage at www.hotelroma.cz.

4* Andel's (Design) Hotel. Andel. Andels Design Hotel is in the centre of the "new" Smichov area. Very modern. Very chic. As a guide, you will find this Prague hotel homepage at www.andelshotel.com.

4* Andel's Suites Hotel. Andel. Andels Design Suites is the same place as above with the exception that you are on a "suite" floor as opposed to a "room" floor (and an excuse for another webpage). As a guide, you will find the hotel homepage at www.andelshotel.com.

4* Hotel Movenpick. Hotel Movenpick is just outside the "Novy Smichov" area which has many bars, restaurants, shops, cinemas and clubs etc but it's only a 5 minute walk. The local area is quite run down and there is a new highway right outside. Common in the "last minute" offers. As a guide, you will find this Prague hotel group homepage at www.moevenpick-hotels.com.

4* Julian. Ujezd. Hotel Julian is on the Ujezd/Andel border but, not on the main road. It always gets good ratings for friendliness and general "staff help". Upgraded from 3 star introducing the roof terrace, wellness centre and modernised rooms in 2009. Not the greatest location but, 2 mins walk will get you to the tram system. During the day you could walk through Kampa Park to the Charles Bridge in 15 minutes but, at night you'll be using the roads so allow an extra 5-10 minutes. Quiet area. It has disabled access rooms. Personally recommended. As a guide, you will find this Prague hotel homepage at www.julian.cz.

4* Hotel Popelka. Andel. Located a short walk and then a two stop tram ride from the centre of Andel. I recommend it for people intending to drive here as it has an enclosed secure car park. Nothing special in the style or design. Just a well presented modern four star but buy a travel pass as you'll be on and off the trams a lot (hotel sells DPP tickets). Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelpopelka.cz.

4* La Boutique. Andel/Smichov. Apartment hotel with 1 bedroom plus living room sofa-bed combination. Very stylish inside the hotel. Now the bad part. Outside the hotel is about as unstylish as you can get. You'll run up the road which borders the biggest brewery in Prague (Staropramen) to get to the tram stop to take you into central tourist areas of Prague. It's on the edge of the Andel area (almost in Smichov) so it's 5 tram stops to Malostranske Namesti. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.laboutique.cz.

4* Hotel Kampa. Ujezd. Best Western group hotel. Located at Vyshrdova 6 which is a very quiet street 2 minutes walk from Kampa Park or 15 minutes walk to Malostranske Namesti. A 3 minute walk will get you to the nearest tram stop in Ujezd. A walk to the Old Town Square would be about 30 minutes. Well presented and fairly large. Nice restaurant with "middle ages" decoration. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotel-kampa.info.

4* NH Praha Radlicka. Andel. Smart hotel of the NH chain. Popular with people driving here because it has FREE parking. You'll have a 7 minute walk to the Andel centre (metro/tram and shops). Also has adjoining rooms. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.nh-hotels.com/NHPrahaRadlicka.

3-4* Hunger Wall Residence. Ujezd. Located around the corner from the Ujezd tram stop in the road opposite the base of the Hunger Wall. It has 18 apartments in three configurations the smallest of which is the "Junior" at 45 square metres rising to the rooftop "Executive" (city views) at 90 square metres. Furnishing style is clean with lots of wood for a fresh look. Pretty good value for the size of the apartments. Two tram stops or a 20 minute walk to Malostranske Namesti (Mala Strana main square). Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hungerwall.eu.

3* Aparthotel City 5. Andel. I recommend this for families and/or budget traveller. For families it's got good room/space options and it's close both to the Andel area and Detsky Ostrov (Childrens Island" with it's play areas. Apartments all have kitchenettes but there's also a brakfast buffet (extra charge) where kids up to 6 eat free. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.aparthotelprague.com.

3* Ibis Smichov. Andel. Hotel Ibis Smichov is one of the newer hotels in Prague and is behind the main Andel area but, only 3 or 4 minutes walk will connect you with the metro/tram networks. Standard Ibis accommodation, this is often recommended for people driving here from the west isde via D5. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotelibis.cz. Accorhotels.com: Best Price Guarantee

3* Atos. Andel. Hotel Atos is right on the main road opposite the shopping complex (it's now mostly pedestrianised but, it still has the tramline). Known as a clean budget hotel. Front facing rooms can be a little noisy if you like the window open. Children up to 6 are free if sharing with parents. See Arbes Mepro below. As a guide, you will find this Prague hotel homepage at www.hotelatos.cz.

3*. Hotel Akcent. Located almost in the centre of Andel so it's only a 2 minute walk to the metro and tram stops which are surrounded by restaurants, bars and shops. From there it is three tram stops or a 20 minute walk to Mala Strana or four tram stops to Wenceslas Square. The hotel is on the top floor of an office building. No particular style to the place but of the 50+ rooms at least half have great views and some have balconies. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.akcent-hotel.cz.

3*. Hotel D'Angelo. NON-Smoking hotel. Located at Plzenska 25, one tram stop from the centre of Andel or a 5 minute walk. Note that the hotel is situated on one of the main exit roads from Prague centre and the immediate area could be considered as "under-developed". The hotel itself is fine with larger than average rooms although I would avoid front-facing rooms. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.dangelo.cz.

3* Arbes-Mepro. Ujezd. Arbes-Mepro is the sister hotel of the Atos above but, although only about 300 metres away it is firmly in the Ujezd area. People are often moved between the two depending on booking conditions i.e. if you get bumped. Abes Mepro is in a much quieter location but still only a few minutes walk away from the Atos. Ideal location if you are prepared to use the public tram transport. Recommended. As a guide, you will find this Prague hotel homepage at www.arbes-mepro.cz.

3* Hotel william. Ujezd. Located in Hellichova which is 30 seconds walk from the Hellichova tram stop. Not particularly good rack rate but get a quote online and the price comes down. Ten minute walk or two tramstops to Malostranska. Twenty minutes to the Castle or the Old Town. As a guide, you will find this Prague hotel homepage at www.williamhotelprague.com but also try what deal you can get from www.euroagentur.cz.

3* Botel Admiral. Ujezd. Botel Admiral is on the Andel/Ujezd border on the river just in front of the Riverside Hotel. It is the biggest and most comfortable (following the 2003 refit) of the four Prague Botels. Twins and doubles. Worth a trip just to eat in the restaurant. Personally recommended. As a guide, you will find this Prague hotel homepage at www.admiral-botel.cz.

3* Austria Suites. Opened in 2009 in a renovated building next to the Novy Smichov shopping centre. Rooms are all large studio. The triple size takes an extra bed. All suites have kitchenette. Nice courtyard. Single room from 35 Euros off-season. Contact them direct for a quote. Closest tram stop is 40 metres and it's 1 stop to Andel or 3 stops to Mala Strana. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.austriasuites.cz.

3* Hotel U Krize. Ujezd. Located opposite the Ujezd tram stop at the bottom of the Hunger Wall in Petrin Park. A little overpriced for a three star but the suites are good value off-season. It's a 15-20 minute walk to Malostranske Namesti (or two tram stops) and another 5 minutes to Charles Bridge. You can add another 10 minutes to walk to the Old Town Square or Prague Castle. The road in front of the hotel is busy and cobblestoned so it can be noisy. Although the front facing rooms have a view of the park and the communist prisoner memorial, I recommend the rear facing rooms. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.ukrize.cz.

3* Residence Mala Strana. Ujezd. Operated by the Garzotto group. It's an apartment hotel. All rooms are doubles and some have sofabeds as well. All rooms have kitchenette. Hotel is in a fairly quiet side street in Ujezd. You can walk to Mala Strana centre in about 20-25 minutes or there's a tram stop at the top of the road (4 stops to Malo stranske Namesti or 2 stops to Andel). Only hotel I know that offers a special "shopping" package. 10% discount for advance booking. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their group homepage is at www.garzottohotels.cz.

3* Ai Due Mondi. Andel area. Let's start by saying that the one bedroom apartments here are quite elegant and provide a spacious alternative to a regular double. Get a quote for the price. Now to balance that. The area is frighteningly crap (ask yourself why there is no picture of the building on the website). Totally undeveloped and sits on a noisy road junction. That said, it's only a 5 minute walk to Andel and it's cosmopolitan bars/restaurants and transport connections. So you takes your choice on this one. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.aiduemondi.com. And for any Italians who may have read this, avoid the Tiepolo as well as I saw that praga.it recommends it.

3* Argosy Residence. Andel area. You can expect a 5-10 minute walk to the cosmopolitan centre of the area (or there's a bus) to get to the bars, restaurants and transport links. The residence rooms are mostly 30 metres square with others at 40 metres square that have a sofabed. Accommodation for two children under 12 on the sofabed is FREE. Good value for a family staying in high season. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.argosy.cz.

2*. Pension Alfa. Ujezd. Basic pension with single rooms less than 30 Euros a night and doubles @40Euros. All rooms en-suite. No breakfast but dining room and kitchen are shared for guest use. Located in Svornosti which is a fairly busy link road from central Prague, I would avoid front facing rooms. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.pensionalfa.com.

Travellers Hostel Ujezd. Only opens in Summer. Currently this has the cheapest dorm bed in Prague with off-season 200kc per night including breakfast. And it's the BIGGEST dormitory in the Czech Republic if not the whole of Europe as it's in an old sports hall so bring a basketball with you. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.travellers.cz.

Hostel5. Andel/Smichov. Hostel5 is located about 300 metres from the Andel metro station on the main road Plzenska (just around the corner from the Movenpick). Cheap prices and three types of room/bath options. Prices from 360kc for a dormitory bed and the hostel gives various discounts for long-stay and groups. Breakfast not included. No 24hr reception. I would look at the central hostels first. As a guide, you will find this Prague hostel homepage at www.hostel5.com.
