Republic Square Accommodation

Namesti Republiky is located between the Old Town and the main highway. It's a 5 minute walk from the Republic Square to the Old Town Square. The large Palladium shopping centre opened in 2008 and is currently Prague's largest shopping centre with a restaurant floor open until 4am. This is also the location of the "Powder Gate" and "Municipal House". If you are using the CEDAZ airport transfer service then this is the main drop-off point.

There are many reasonable bars and restaurants within 5 minutes walk plus a large concentration of 3 and 4 star Prague hotels. Namesti Republiky has a metro station and also good tram connections for those arriving from Holesovice and Prague 8. The main roads for hotels are Revolucni, Hybernska and Na Porici. All Prague accommodation descriptions are based on my own independent assessments. On this page you'll find the webpage of the accommodation concerned and there are also links to Trip Advisor where you can read the description supplied by the accommodation itself plus photos and comments by guests who have already stayed there. There are also options for making bookings if you decide to make a reservation.

5*. Hotel Kempinski. This is also called the Kempinski Hybernska Palace. It's where "historical" and "contemporary" come together i.e. they ripped the guts out of a 400 year old building to make it more modern. Superior class is a modern single room. Grand Deluxe class has a separate living room. They have four different types of suite. Very nice garden area to recover from hot weather. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the homepage is at www.kempinski-prague.com.

5*. Hotel Marriott. This is a two minute walk from Namesti Republiky. Five star Marriott standard. Frequent flyer country. Does an excellent Sunday brunch. Recommended. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the group homepage is at www.marriott.com/hotels/hotel-information/travel/prgdt-prague-marriott-hotel/.

5*. Hotel Hilton Old Town. Refurbished in what used to be the Rennaissance hotel. Opposite the Marriott and again a two minute walk to Namesti Republiky. It has the "Zinc" restaurant but it has not broken into the Top 20 restaurants so far. If you are used to Hilton decor then you'll find this is a bit different to the norm. It's far more contemporary than it's original sister hotel. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the homepage is at www.hiltonpragueoldtown.com

5*. Hotel Imperial. Also known as Art Deco Hotel Imperial. There was a time when you could throw doughnuts in the cafe and you had to take the old open-faced lift but, that's all gone now. This is what a 14 million pound refit will get you. Elegant and luxurious rarely apply to the standard rooms but... they do here. Of all the new 5 stars that have opened this is by far my favourite. Hi-spec rooms which increase in size, spec, and extras as you pay more (mind you there's not a great difference betwen a double deluxe and a suite). Rooms contain the biggest in-room safe available, big enough for a laptop. The hotel is a must visit for Art Deco fans. I've been visiting the Cafe (now the built-in restaurant) with it's ceramic decoration since 1995 (you can see it on the virtual tour). Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotel-imperial.cz.

4* Hotel Opera. Classically decorated hotel which was refurbished after the 2002 flood. Rooms are all airconditioned and soundproofed as the main highway is about 50 metres away from the hotel. Excellent value if you take the Comfort package as the return taxi trip on it's own would be 50 Euros. It's about a 15 minute walk to Namesti Republiky and a further 10 minutes to either Wenceslas Square or the Old Town Square. Trams run regularly from Namesti Republiky and your nearest metro is Florenc so consider buying a travel pass. Prague hostels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.hotel-opera.cz.

4*. Hotel Meteor Plaza. This is the first hotel in Hybernska (good end of the road). It's an eight minute walk to the Old Town Square or Wenceslas Square. Best Western chain hotel with a very nice "wellness" area and basement restaurant. Very popular with budget business travellers. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the homepage is at www.hotel-meteor.cz.

4*. Hotel Clarion. This is in a quiet street one road back from the river road and one street over from Revolucni. 90 rooms. Two minutes walk to the Jewish quarter. Ten minutes walk to the Old Town Square. Nice to walk past the Casa Marcello hotel into Hastalske Namesti. Stop at the Marcello "Agnes" restaurant in the garden if it's nice weather. Part of the CPI group. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the homepage is at www.cpihotels.cz/en/choice-hotels/clarion-hotel-prague/.

4*. Hotel Century Old Town Prague. Located in Na Porici in the same stretch as the Ibis and Atlantic. Part of the Accor group but upgraded to their Mercure "M Gallery" class (lots of art on the walls and tasteful furniture etc). The room size difference between "standard" and "luxury" is about 2 square metres. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the group homepage is at www.accorhotels.com.

4*. Hotel Golden Tulip Prague Terminus. Formerly called Tulip Inn when it was a 3 star, it's at the far end of Hybernska. Front and side facing rooms face the main highway. Has good deals if you are prepared for the high-speed view. Not much in the immediate area but it's only a 15-20 minute walk to the Old Town Square or Wenceslas Square. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the group homepage is at www.goldentulipterminus.com.

4*. Verona Residence. This has 17 self-contained suites i.e. with micro-kitchenette. Suites vary from 1-bed to 3-bed (plus a sofabed in the living rooms). Govinda vegetarian restaurant is in the same street. Eight minute walk to the Old Town Square. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the homepage is at www.verona-prague.com.

4*. Hotel Clement. This hotel offers 76 heavily partitioned rooms spread over eight floors of a converted apartment block. It's a 6 minute walk to Namesti Rpubliky or ten minutes to the Old Town Square. Bit of a shock from the outside but perfectly nice once you are in through the front door. Aircon and tea/coffee facilities in the rooms. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the homepage is at www.hotelclement.cz.

4*. Hotel Da Vinci Old Town. As you will see, it's not in the Old Town. I would advise getting inside facing rooms as the outside facing ones have the main highway about 30 feet away. Perfectly nice hotel. 80 rooms and 20 suites with excellent in-room equipment/fittings but, it's a totally misleading location.

3*. Hotel Atlantic. This is in Na Porici and is one of the original hotels in the road. 100 metres from Namesti Republiky. Much better after the refit. Perfectly good rooms and good value although the front faces a tram line. Part of the "small charming hotels" group but I don't consider it either small (62 spacious rooms) or charming (modern fittings and decor). Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the homepage is at www.hotel-atlantic.cz.

3*. Hotel Axa. Located further down Na Porici, about a six minute walk from Namesti Republiky. Often seen advertising "deals". Axa has the biggest (free) indoor pool of all the central hotels in Prague (25 metres). Front facing rooms overlook the tramline but, windows are sealed. Nice breakfast buffet if you restrict yourself to coffee and cold stuff. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the homepage is at www.hotelaxa.com.

3* Hotel Merkur. This is not the Hotel Mercure. Located along from the Hotel Opera so the whole of the front of the building faces the motorway. The hotel was renovated after the 2002 flood. Actually had you been standing at reception on August 13th 2002 you would have been totally submerged. Quite good value for money for doubles and triples. Children under two free if sleeping with parents. Children under 10 get 50% off extra bed in double or triple. It's about a 15 minute walk to Namesti Republiky and a further 10 minutes to either Wenceslas Square or the Old Town Square. Trams run regularly from Namesti Republiky and your nearest metro is Florenc so consider buying a travel pass. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so their homepage is at www.orfea.cz.

3* Hotel Susa-Due. Located in Petrska which is a 5 minute walk to Namesti Republiky (10 minutes to Wenceslas or the Old Town Square). Super little place currently in my own little top 10. Little offers like arrival drinks for booking online and free nights etc normally come from bigger hotels. All rooms have micro-kitchens with fridge, microwave and kettle. All rooms are no smoking and extra beds for children are free (enquire with hotel). Normally I give the homepage but it defaults to the Czech version so here is the pricelist page on the English site and you can navigate the rest. www.susam.cz/english/pricelist.html.

3*. Hotel City Centre. This overlooks Namesti Republiky on one side. Basic 3 star, no restaurant. Picks up a lot of "stag night" trade. Small reception but, reasonably friendly staff. Often seen offering a "one night free" deal if you are staying a week. Part of a small 4-hotel group in the 3-4 star range. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the homepage is at www.city-centre.cz.

3*. Hotel Harmony. Located opposite the Axa. It got a refurbishment a couple of years ago to really bring it into the 3 star range. Suites offer excellent value. Public restaurant at lunchtimes. You can SKYPE the hotel as well. Personally recommended. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the homepage is at www.hotelharmonypraha.com.

3*. Hotel Ibis Old Town. Opened in 2006 about eighty metres from Namesti Republiky. Standard Ibis decor and amenities. Careful when choosing Ibis "Mala Strana" as the location is actually "Smichov" which is a 30 minute walk from Mala Strana and the Karlin location requires a metro/tram ride into town. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the group homepage is at www.hotelibis.cz.

quote.... great tip, never seen anything like it before .... unquote

3*. Hotel K&K Central. Located just along from the Meteor Plaza and often a "last minute" hotel. Beautiful architecture outside blighted by the over-modern interior. Ten minute walk to the Old Town Square. Busy place but still fairly friendly. If they are overbooked they will try to bump you to the sister hotel Fenix (Wenceslas Square area) which is in the road with all the sport bars and strip clubs. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the group homepage is at www.kkhotels.com.

3*. Hotel Salvator. A two minute walk from Namesti Republiky. Old style upgraded pension with options for adjoining rooms for families etc. La Boca steak restaurant is part of the building and there's a nice outdoor eating area. Still reasonably good value off season but becoming expensive for this class in the main season. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the homepage is at www.salvator.cz.

3*. Truhlarska Apartment House. A three minute walk from Namesti Republiky. Renovated and opened in 2005. Fourteen spacious apartments. Couple of small bars and a nice steak restaurant in the street. Charges per person so it may work out a bit more expensive than other options. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the homepage is at www.truhlarska-apartment-house.cz.

Find the best deal, compare prices and read what other travelers have to say about hotels in Prague.

3*. Botel Albatros. Botels are generally classed as three star with a restaurant on board although in reality the room size and decor is 2 star. Botel Albatros has 83 rooms which are generally twin/double and not spacious plus three apartments sleeping maximum 4 people. The Albatros is a seven minute walk from Namesti Republiky and hence, approximately twelve minutes walk to the Old Town Square. I still prefer the Botel Admiral in the Ujezd/Andel section. Prague hotels may offer local Prague deals so the homepage is at www.botelalbatros.cz.

2*. Pension Platan. Previously known as Pension 2000, it is cheap and cheerful. Rooms and kitchenette apartments. TIP: Get the Saint Clement Studio if you can (if you don't mind the stairs). Located in Revolucni about a two minute walk from Namesti Republiky and only has 11 rooms. This Prague accommodation is now represented by a travel agency at www.platan.cz.

2*. Hostel A-Plus. Located at the far end of Na Porici i.e. 15 minute walk to Namesti Republiky. Front facing rooms overlook the highway. It's a hotel and hostel. Free internet, buffet breakfast etc. 100 metres from Florenc metro. Fifty metres from tram stop but, you'll find the metro more convenient to get around, especially to Mustek (Wenceslas Square). As a guide, you will find the hostel homepage at www.aplus-hostel.cz.
