Prague Apartments Guide

I try not to classify Prague Apartments (or Residences) in any kind of "star" category but, I've included the star rating that the accommodation has listed itself under. I use the terms basic and over-standard to get across what to expect or I use luxury for the really top-end suites and apartments. There are generally two types of Prague apartments i.e. self-contained (it has a kitchen) or "room(s) only". I've started the list at the luxury/over-standard end of the Prague market. This list is not based on areas like the other pages but, against each suggestion I include it's location. I do not include separate apartments within hotels in this list. This is the newest accommodation page on the site. Normally I just walk into hotels and ask to see rooms but, many of these places are in private buildings so, I won't recommend somewhere I've not been able to see for myself.

If you've not booked your hotel then Living Prague recommends the following local booking agent.

5*. The Santini Residence is a recent addition to the Prague five star accommodation but, it's made a running start. Small place (8 suites plus an "executive" room) ranging in size from 40 to 70 square metres. Already in Prague's top 10 after only two years. Not heard a bad word about it. Not often I walk in a place and think "worth an extra star". Five minute walk to Prague Castle. Suite and apartments have a kitchenette. As a guide, you will find the hotel homepage at www.santiniresidence.com.

4*. Prague 1, Mala Strana. The four star Residence Nosticova has ten self-contained luxury suites. Very quiet location on the low side of Mala Strana. Five minute walk from Charles Bridge (during the day when you can use the park, otherwise at night it's 10 minutes via the roads). Great Prague Honeymoon choice. Does "romantic" packages. Same group that owns the Alchymist Grand Hotel and Spa. Note that nosticovaresidence.com is the old hotel domain. As a guide, you will find the current hotel homepage at www.nosticova.com.

4*. Residence Retezova (or Residence Three Golden Chains as more recently known) is on my recommended list for apartment hotels. It has 9 different apartments of varying sizes. All are self-contained. The hotel supplies ground plans of the different types (which is helpful). Dead-end street which makes it quiet but, only 3 minute walk from the Old Town Square. Reception is 24 hours but, you still get a key to the front door. As a guide, you will find the hotel homepage at www.residenceretezova.com.

4*. Accome Julis is a luxury Apartment Hotel in Prague towards the top of Wenceslas Square. 72 very modern and fully equipped apts with kitchenettes. Apts are either "small studio", "large studio" or "one bedroom". Light sleepers should get rear (garden) facing rooms as this end of the square is noisy at the front. Free internet in reception. Free use of sauna/pool at the basement "World Class Gym" with pass supplied by the hotel (pool is 20 metres). Recommended. As a guide, you will find the hotel homepage at www.accome.cz. (click on the "our hotels" link).

4*. The four star Appia Residence opened in 2005 in Prague 1 Mala Strana between the castle and Petrin Park. Quiet area but with a couple of restaurants and bars just around the corner. Huge suites and spacious rooms. Very pleasant outside public areas. Ten minute walk to Castle, 15 minutes walk to Charles Bridge. Personally recommended. Not self-contained. As a guide, you will find the hotel homepage at www.appia-apartments.com.

4*. Prague 1, Mala Strana. The four star Residence Lundborg is right next to the Charles Bridge. In this case "a stones throw" would actually hit the bridge. Thirteen suites of varying sizes. Parents should note that the living rooms also have a sofa bed. Aircon. All are self-contained apartments. As a guide, you will find the hotel homepage at www.residencelundborg.cz.

3*. Prague 1, Mala Strana and Castle areas. The Castle Steps apartments are located in different parts of Nerudova and the road it leads into called Uvoz. Most are self-contained apartments. The Uvoz apartments are personally recommended. As a guide, you will find the hotel homepage at www.castlesteps.com.

3*. Prague 1 close to the Old Town Square. Self-contained. Residence Masna is also known as the Masna Apartment House and is a set of regular modern Czech style apartments in a side road about a 3 minute walk from the Old Town Square. The self-containedapartments face either the street or the courtyard. Top floor apartments have rooftop views depending on the side, you see either the castle (courtyard side) or the Old Town (street side). Friendly staff, lots of ammenities, laundry, internet etc. Personally recommended. As a guide, you will find the residence homepage at www.masna-apartment-house.cz.

3*. Prague 2, Prague 4 border. Apartment Vysehrad has 6 apartments, all with kitchenette. Bigger older apartments at the front. Family run. Five minute walk to nearest tram stop and then a five stop tram ride into the centre (get off at Narodni Metro). As a guide, you will find the hotel homepage at www.apart-vysehrad.cz.

3*. Arcadia Residence has large and small apartments all with a kitchenette. Vysehrad location. Five minute walk to riverfront and five stops to the centre of town. Child friendly. Pascale (owner) goes the extra yard to make sure your trip is ok (free travel pass as well if you stay a week). Personally recommended. They also have apartments in the Old Town and Mala Strana. As a guide, you will find the hotel homepage at www.arcadiaresidence.com.

3*. Prague 2. Belgicka Residence is an award winning apartment residence. Twenty apartments ranging from studio to 2-bed. Pleasant area very close to Namesti Miru (nearest metro). Two metro stops to the centre or a 20 minute walk. As a guide, you will find the hotel group homepage at www.mamaison-residences.com/prague.

3*. Prague 2. Apartment Karee in Londynska which is a 5 minute walk from either Namesti Miru metro or the tram/metro at IP Pavlova. Recommended for the 2 bedroom LUX apartments which if two couples are sharing offers excellent value. Children under 6 FREE, children 6-12 - 10 Euros per night. Late checkout options. As a guide, you will find the homepage at www.karee.cz.

3*. Border of Prague 1 and Prague 2. The over-standard private self-contained Miss Sophies apartments are opposite the hostel building. Friendly staff. Personally recommended. As a guide, you will find the hostel homepage at www.miss-sophies.com.

3*. Prague 2. Residence Belehradska 35 (formerly called Pension B35) is a bit more than 5 minutes walk to Wenceslas Square (15 mins) but, it's only three tram stops and it's such a good place I've included it here. It has 16 apartments of 4 different combinations. Pros - Family run, fairly cheap. Nice apartments, all self-contained, great website descriptions and pictures. Cons - Public transport or taxis after dark. Personally recommended. As a guide, you can find their webpage at www.b35.cz.

3*. Aparthotel Lublanka is a good option for hotels in Prague for people who don't mind a regular Czech street but want to be a 5 minute walk from Wenceslas Square. Has a decent public bar on the premesis. Lists itself as 3 and a half stars (on the Czech scale) but, the last refit meets at least the 3 star standard. As a guide, you will find the hotel homepage at www.lublanka.cz.

2*. Prague 3. Carpe Diem (run by the B&B Association) is another cheap and cheerful option. Rooms that can handle different combinations of beds. Family owned and run. Prices per person. It's at the top of the road (Seifertova) so expect a 30 minute walk into the centre or 5 stops on the tram. Room only. As a guide, you will find the B&B homepage at www.bedandbreakfastprague.com.

Inna Kosova. Basic. Two minute walk from the top of Wenceslas Square. Not self contained. B&B Inna Kosova is not a spelling mistake (Inna Kosova is the landlady's name). Classic Czech B&B but, what a location, right next to the National Museum. Decor is a bit purple but, what the hell. Prices from 18U$ per person and the apartment can sleep four. As a guide, you can find her website at www.sweb.cz/kosovainna/us1.html.
